Including Lunch

Wednesday 11th September 2019

 SN 2019 2

Treat yourself to another enjoyable day. Join the coach at Halling which departs 09:00 or 09:15 at Medway Valley Leisure Park , sit back and relax. We arrive at the Shepherd Neame Brewery for coffee/tea at 10:15am then start the tour at 10:45am. Remember, no flip-flops as this is designated as a working industrial site with stairs to climb and you should make sure you are wearing comfortable safe shoes and clothing for this tour. Those who are unable to physically make the tour can have a virtual tour instead.

This award-winning guided tour takes us around the Faversham Brewery site to learn about the ancient art of brewing. See brewing and fermentation vessels; taste natural mineral water from the brewery’s well; try some malted barley and smell locally-grown Kentish hops. The 80 minute tour also includes a visit to the Old Brewery Store, housed in the old wines and spirits store, which features impressive displays of historic delivery vehicles, a recreated coopers’ workshop, bygone pub signs and a collection of hop picking memorabilia. It ends back in the Visitor Centre with a tutored tasting of Shepherd Neame’s Kentish ales and speciality lagers.

After the tour we are treated to a “Shepherd Neame” Pie: Lamb braised in Spitfire Gold Ale topped with creamy mashed potatoes & served with green peas followed by Kentish Bramley Apple Pie & Fresh Cream lunch. Vegetarians & special dietary needs will be catered for, just indicate your dietary needs on the booking form.

The cost to our Members is £25.00 each and to join the trip please download the booking form (click HERE), complete it including indicating your pickup point, and return to Lorna with your cheque payable to AMKKM Medway by no later than 16th August 2019.

Notice of Advice on Shepherd Neame Website

Our award-winning guided tours take visitors through the heart of this working industrial site.

During times when production is taking place, the tour guide may speak into a microphone and each visitor is invited to listen through a headset. This system is usually only used when the brewhouse is especially noisy (i.e. during the daytime on weekdays).

Limited induction loops are available; these must be requested in advance of your visit.

Although we can not guarantee when specific machinery will be in operation – the brewhouse does tend to be quieter during the weekend.

The tour normally features two short films – subtitles are available. If you require information in large print, please call the Visitor Centre to request.

The brewery features a number of steps and is therefore not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. However a virtual tour can be provided – we request that virtual tours are booked at least two weeks in advance of your visit.

Practical footwear is required. High-heeled shoes, sandals, flip-flops or open-toed shoes are not suitable and visitors wearing such footwear will not be allowed to join the tour.

As a food factory, it is not possible for us to accommodate guide dogs on the brewery tour but they are welcome in the Visitor Centre bar. Blind and partially sighted visitors are welcome on the brewery tours with sighted carers.

After we have had lunch we may have time to squeeze in another visit to a place of interest. We are exploring possibilities and if we are successful and we have enough time we will add this extra item in on the day. Otherwise we will stop off at Macknade which is a traditional food store. For information about Macknade, please visit their website: click HERE.
